Oh, you know. Weekend stuff.

First of all, I need to say that I am the worst email responder on the planet. I promise I'm trying to be better. So, if you're waiting on an email response from me, I haven't forgotten you! I'm just lame and will be getting back to you soon.

In other news, I had a glorious three day weekend. I did my usual weekend ferry jaunt to my parents and did the usual weekend things I do. Then I came home and celebrated Memorial Day by going out to sushi with Lance, followed by catching up on all our shows while eating excessive amounts of gelato straight from the container. We are such rebels. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but so nice to both have a whole day off together for once! I'm feeling so refreshed and am excited that circumstances have now made it likely that we will both have Mondays as our one and only day off together (for a little while anyway). What will we even do with such freedom?! Besides eat lots of gelato, of course.

Friday's Letters

Dear Best Buy, I'm super stoked about the numerous texts I keep  receiving about my winnings. Which of your fourteen phone numbers should I send my ssn to? Dear Husband, I know we talked about this a few weeks ago, but I still think it's weird that you don't know how to spell my not-yet-changed (oops! I'm a slacker...) maiden name. I thought you loved me, but guess not. And you thought you were in the clear on this one, but I also haven't forgotten that you couldn't spell my middle name when we first got married. I, on the other hand, can pretty much list and spell and numerate anything about you. And by numerate I mean I know all your important life and account numbers by heart. I guess I'm just the better spouse. Oops, I forgive you.  Dear giant, purple terrycloth pants with very stretchy elastic waistband, it's an honor to be wearing you right now in all your purple glory. I know husband likes it too. Dear hair, You're looking mighty grease-tastic today. I apologize for not washing you because I really should have, like, yesterday.

The Last Thing Thursday....

Today I am linking up with Jenna over at The Life of the Wife for my first ever Last Thing Thursday! Woohoo!

These adorable shoes that I wish I had an occasion for and the whopping $220 to purchase.

-was angry about-
Trying to park downtown while running late to meet up with friends. Seriously, I hate it and may have uttered a few unnecessary words.

I may or may not have about fifty containers of gelato in my freezer right now. Hey, it was on sale so I had to stock up, right?

Sister Wives. Completely a guilty pleasure of mine. I just can't stop! They absolutely fascinate me and I am so stoked that there is a new season right now.

-resisted purchasing-
I've always been a "likes to hold the actual book" kind of person, but the other day I realized how nice it would be on certain occasions to be able to purchase books at the touch of a button! And to not have to carry big bulky books around with you! What a dream that would be. But, alas, I resisted. I realized that I usually only read at home, although I bet would read way more often and in way more places with a kindle... Okay, maybe I am still tempted.

Lovejoy Bakers

Are you sick of me talking about Portland yet? I'm not. I could talk about it all day. So, here's another one for your Portland visiting checklist: Lovejoy Bakers.

Whenever we are in Portland we always stop in Lovejoy Bakers for coffee or a sandwich. I'm a sucker for cool cafes and this one is one of my favorites. The coffee is to die for and the atmosphere is fab. It really makes me yearn for some better cafes in Seattle. We have about 10 favorites in Portland but haven't found quite so many since we moved here... Although I'm sure it's just that we don't know where to look. We're still pretty newbie Seattleites. So much so that I couldn't even figure out how to spell Seattleite. Still not even sure. And if you look at the word Seattle too long something crazy happens and it looks totally wrong.

Okay, but seriously, does anyone have any fave Seattle cafes that I simply must know about?!

p.s. I'm pretty sure the neat dog artwork is by Matt Warford.

Instagram has decided that this is what my life has looked like over the past week or so. Nothing too special, being sick and all. If you care to see more of what my instagram records, or if you just want mock me for my frequent spilling incidents, then you most certainly are welcome to follow along!

fevers and burgers and movies, oh my!

This is what my last couple of days have looked like. Fever crept in and the only thing keeping me going have been burgers and movies. I really don't know why I have had such burger cravings. Illness always seems to make me crave one specific food throughout and this time I can't get enough Red Mill burgers. Hubby is definitely not mad about that! Although, he was a little mad when I picked The Vow and threatened not to watch it with me. But he totally got suckered in and I'm pretty sure he liked it more than I did...

Salt & Straw

While we were in Portland last week we hit up Salt & Straw at their new location. We had never been, but heard great things about their inventive ice cream flavors from friends. Oh, and from some woman named Oprah. So, we knew we had to try it (plus they serve Stumptown so they're legit in my book). The lines for this place were massive so I'd say they are doing pretty well.

In true Portland style, all the ice cream is handmade with local and organic ingredients and their flavor options are pretty unique. Example? Strawberry balsamic and black pepper. Pepper. In ice cream. I know, right?

We went with friends and sampled a few flavors before we made our choices. Lance went with half Oprah's favorite flavor (olive oil) and half dandelion sorbet. I chose half pear & blue cheese and half sea salt with caramel ribbons. And the verdict was...delicious! So good, we even went back the next day with Lance's parents.

What's the most exciting ice cream flavor you've had? Does anywhere besides Portland have such places?!

500 follower Q + A!

Okay, you GUYS. There are 500 of you crazy people following on gfc! 500! Not to mention all you other non-gfc followers. Who even ARE all of you and why are you following me?! I'm kind of flabbergasted and I don't even think I comprehend that there are actually people reading the things I post. But, honestly, you readers are a huge part of what makes blogging so much fun! I have loved getting to know so many of you.

The truth is that sometimes I feel like I fail at connecting with you and probably have missed responding to countless questions or emails. And if so, please, please just pester me until I answer you, because my lack of response is completely unintentional. It's way too easy for an email or comment to get buried in my inbox and I really think I need a better system.

That being said, I wanted to celebrate reaching 500+ followers with a little Q+A sesh. But it's going to go two ways because I want to get to know you as much as I want you to get to know me.

First, I'd love for you to answer the following questions:
  1.  Are you a blogger or just a blog-reader?
  2.  What are some of your favorite blogs?
  3.  If you won an all expenses paid vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go and why?

Then, ask me anything you would like to know about me and I will answer them in an upcoming post! You can do this either in the comments or via email: kyleenoelleblog[at]gmail[dot]com.

Also, I've been meaning to make a FAQ page, so I'll just get that out of the way right now so you don't have to ask these ones:

Q. Did you design your blog yourself?
A. Yes, I designed the elements myself and then stumbled my way through getting them to actually appear on the blog!

Q. Do you offer any design services?
A. Some. Feel free to email me (kyleenoelleblog[at]gmail[dot]com) with what you are looking for and we can discuss rates and availability.

Q. What kind of camera do you use?
A. I have some lame Canon PowerShot or my iphone. Nothing fancy.

Q. What do you use to edit your photos?
A.  Mostly I use Photoshop or Instagram.

Q. How do you make your collages?
A. Picasa, Photoshop, or Polyvore.

Now ask away! xo

The pictures from this last weekend make me smile.

Mothers were honored with beautiful roses at church.

Jack got himself a dapper summer haircut.

The weather was out of control gorgeous.

My little brother was a total fashionista in his bright blue jeans.

Multiple ferry rides were had.

Trips to take the parents to the airport were made.

And, possibly most importantly, I received a Gossip Girl themed Birchbox.

So, yeah, it was a fabulous weekend full of family and sun. And the sun is definitely still shining (knock on wood!).

Portlandia pt. 2

So today's post is a picture overload from our Portland trip. We were only there a couple of days and we spent most of our time on the west side of the river and didn't venture much to the east side. Every morning Lance and I would explore the city on our own and meet up with friends or family in the evening. Portland really might be the greatest city ever. Everything is chill, quiet, and a little weird (in a good way!). The show Portlandia is alarmingly accurate at times, probably less satirical than you'd imagine if you haven't visited!

It was so nice to visit family and friends and go back to all our favorite places (and try some new ones too!). We're already looking forward to our next trip!

Portland {day 1}

We just got back from Portland! We had such a wonderful trip. In some ways we still consider Portland to be home, given that we lived there for most of our lives, so it was so nice to be back in our little city. The weather while we were there was absolutely delightful so we got to spend plenty of time outdoors romping around.

On our first day we spent lots of time with family. One of the things we did that day was visit Council Crest Park, which has some absolutely glorious views of Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. Here are some photos from day one of our little trip! The photo above and the last photo in this post (the tower and the bridge) are both views from my mother-in-law's home. Gorgeous, no?
