The last few days we have spent having a lovely Christmas with my family. On Christmas Eve we went to the candlelight gathering at church and then came home and watched A Christmas Story (best Christmas movie ever!). On Christmas morning we woke up and made coffee, opened presents in our jammies, and had our traditional Christmas morning Puff Pancakes and mimosas. The next couple of days were filled with video-gaming boys, crazy puppy antics, eating way too much food, and lots of laughs and togetherness. It's been a lovely and relaxing few days, but our holiday fun isn't over yet! Now we are in Portland to spend some time with Lance's family and then to celebrate the New Year with friends!

Look what I got in the mail! It's from my Secret Santa.....Aunie! Go check her out over at Simply Aunie. She is just adorable!
-The best smelling candle EVER. I lit it before I even took the picture.
-A sweet hair flower
-Two fabulous new nailpolishes!
Thanks so much Aunie! Oh, and Aunie just so happens to be who I got for my Secret Santa too. My package was all sneaky-like and didn't say who it was from. So hey girl, it was me!
Special thanks to Summer and Melina for putting this fun gift exchange together! Such a fun idea :)

We're last minute kind of people. Thus resulting in an all day Christmas shopping marathon with Hubby yesterday. My. Feet. Hurt. The excursion took extra long because Hubby is such a slow shopper. Adorably slow because it's so presh how he takes so long to pick out just the right gift for each person.
I shall spend today wrapping presents and getting packed to head home for Christmas tomorrow! Wrapping is my favorite. Last year I had so much fun using things I had around the house to wrap my gifts (saving some serious scrilla on wrapping supplies!). I used grocery sacks, printer paper, doilies, fabric scraps...whatever. I highly recommend this method. It's easy and more fun! I have no clue what I'm going to do this year so it's time for me to go get creative! I hope you all have a Christmas weekend full of wonderful togetherness and Christmas cheer.
Reminiscing on last year....

Today you can find me guest posting about faith over at one of my lovely sponsor's blogs, Replicating His Love. Amber is so wise and such an inspiration so be sure and look around her blog while you're there! I'm sure you'll just love her!
P.S. Am I the only one who hasn't gone Christmas shopping yet? Just a little behind is all...

I have learned many things since I got married. Some of them small and simple and others profound and life-changing. Every day we are learning more about each other and about how to navigate our marriage. Part of the beauty of married life is the learning and adapting process. I don't think that ever stops as new seasons of life bring new challenges and surprises.
Today I will be sharing five of the more simple, yet incredibly valuable things I have learned so far in my marriage. Some of them are things you hear about a million times before you get married but don't truly appreciate and understand until after the fact. It's funny how it works. Beforehand you're like "yeah, yeah, yeah I understand that's how marriage will be.", and then you get married and you actually have to navigate through it.
5 Things I've Learned From 3 Years of Marriage
1. Love is a choice. We choose it every day. Good times or bad. We made a promise and intend to keep it. Lance and I are always clear that we still choose and always will choose each other, even when times are rough. We trust that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel if we both choose to work at it.
2. Selfishness kills relationships. Being selfless is hard work. It's not easy to let go of the reigns. But sometimes the best way to show your spouse how much you love them is to give something up simply for their happiness.
3. People receive love in different ways. Reading The 5 Love Languages was a pivotal point in our marriage. We discovered that we had entirely different love languages! The things that make Lance feel loved are not the same things that make me feel loved and so we had to adapt and learn to speak the other person's language. I will never forget how after we took the quiz Lance just looked at me with wonder in his eyes and told me how crazy it was that this hadn't clicked before. It was like he had discovered this hidden secret to being a better husband and was thrilled about it.
4. Dating is still important. There is something so exciting and romantic about planning special times out together. It's easy to forgo the dating once you're settled into married life, but it really is important to vary the routine to keep the relationship exciting. I can imagine even more so once kids are in the picture.
5. Not all couples fight about money. We have always been warned that money is one of the biggest causes of marital problems. So far I don't think we have had one argument revolving around our finances or spending habits. We do have different approaches to handling money, but those differences have been fairly compatible. We completely trust and respect each other when it comes to the finances and I think that has played a big role in our avoidance of any issues. Sometimes the lessons we've learned are that we are more in sync (*nsync anyone?!) in certain areas than we had even thought.

I just wanted to thank you all for 9,000 pageviews in the last 30 days! Um crazy. Thanks to all who have commented, emailed, and even lurked since I started this wee little blog! It has been so much fun meeting new people through this little creative venture.
Starting in January I will be accepting new sponsors. For free. Swap style. There will be a limited number available (if you already sponsor you're automatically on for January). So, if you're a rad blogger or shop owner and would be interested in ad swapping for January, email me: email@example.com
and I will tell you what I need from you!
If you've already emailed me and I haven't gotten back I apologize and will be emailing you soon!
Also, I just got a brand new blog facebook page! It is pretty lonely right now with only family members "liking".....You can like it pretty easily over on my right sidebar-->.
I pretty much appear all over the social networking scene. It's kind of crazy. If you want to keep up with me you have no shortage of options available to you. SOOOOO follow away if your hearts desire! I would be thrilled to have you following along as I share my blabberings. My posts do go out through Facebook and Twitter and I think those are the easiest ways to follow if you frequent those sites.
Check the sidebars for all follow options or just use these handy links:
via email, rss, or gfc, which you can find in my right sidebar---------->>>>>>>>>
Okay, so I'm also technically on Google+ but really haven't been on since I got it. So not your best bet.
Happy, Happy, Happy Weekend!
Only 9 days until Christmas!

I love you. Even though your face is itchy right now with all that hair and you close your eyes in all of our pictures. Thanks for sharing your chicken soup with me tonight. And for always making me take my vitamins even when I don't want to.

This is me and my sister. I like her a lot. And guess what? Like I mentioned yesterday, she's a blogger now too! Yup, we're a family full of bloggers. My mom, me, my sister, and our dog....what? Yup, there is soon to be a blogging dog amongst us. Oh dear. I'll keep you posted on that one.
Anyway, I would LOVE it if you went to visit my wonderful, lovely sister Courtney! Welcome her to blogland and be inspired by her exquisite taste and lol at her jokes. She's pretty hilarious. She's also an interior design major so her design sense is pretty legit.
GO FORTH MY DEAR ONES, GO FORTH.
GO FORTH MY DEAR ONES, GO FORTH.

-I had a fancy pants dinner at home in which I actually cooked with raw meat (I'll post the recipe sometime soon!)
-Then, as you saw if you follow me on twitter, Lance spilled red wine all over our carpet. It's *mostly* gone.
-At church I wore a Christmas turtleneck and kissed a caribou for our church's annual Hideous Christmas Sweater and Awkward Family Photo Day.
-I got some new fabric and other items so that I can get my sew on. I am so excited to show you some completed projects soon!
-I watched an episode of The Killing, which is an amazing show! I watch it with my sister (who blogs here by the way!) and we only watch when we are together and so we're wayyyyy behind. So don't give anything away!
-And then I took care of a sick hubby. Poor thing, I hope I didn't give him my illness from last week, but I probably did :(.
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and that your weeks fly by to the next one!

These are pretty simple. But pretty delish. Anything with goat cheese is a win in my book. Both of these are great, but I think #2 is my personal fave.
Just grill, top with avocado or guac, and devour!
tortilla + goat cheese + jack cheese + cooked chicken + garlic + steamed spinach = heaven
(inspired from here)
tortilla + goat cheese + jack cheese + cooked ground turkey or beef + steamed kale = more heaven
The two keys to success?
And this goat cheese:
Both from Trader Joe's.

Remember when I talked about wanting to sew? Well, it's a lot easier to be motivated when you have some cute fabric. I spent the morning scouring Hawthorne Threads and bought some adorable ones!
Here's a sneak peek of a couple of my purchases:

Date night last week (right before I got sick!) consisted of us being too tired to do anything and therefore deciding to make it a "let's go out in our sweats and pick up pizza and a movie" night. So we did. And those really turn out to be the best kinds of dates. Snuggled up at home. With Hubby...and Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Steve Carell. They are all my favorites. All wrapped up into one movie.
